V4 Improv Connect Lights Up the Czech Stage

From May 10–12, 2024, the V4 Improv Connect tour made a memorable first stop in the capital city of the Czech Republic—Prague! Organized by our fantastic Czech partner Lada Karda, founder of České národní improvizační divadlo (ČNID), this leg of the journey reunited improvisers from the V4 Improv retreat in Bratislava for a weekend packed with creativity, connection, laughter—and one unforgettable show.

A Warm Welcome from Prague

The Prague stop featured an inspiring lineup of artists from across the Visegrad region and beyond. The warm hospitality of our Czech hosts—Lada Karda, Jakub Weberschinke, and Barbora Danisova—created a space where improvisers could learn from one another, build trust, perform, and truly collaborate.

The V4 Improv Connect Prague tour featured improvisers from:
🇸🇰 Slovakia (Funnylicious Theater/ ISAC)
🇭🇺 Hungary (Itt és Most Társulat, Flow Theatre)
🇨🇿 Czechia (České národní improvizační divadlo)
🇵🇱 Poland (Teatr Wschodni/ Eastern Theatre)
🇲🇰 North Macedonia (ITI – Macedonian Center of International Theatre Institute)

We kicked off the weekend on Friday with an immersive workshop at Škola Improvizace, a cornerstone of the Czech improv scene. With laughter echoing through the halls, participants exchanged techniques and dove deeper into our two signature formats—Tabloids and Improv Therapy, both developed during our April retreat in Bratislava.

The Show: Saturday Night Spotlight at Divadlo D21

The energy peaked on Saturday night with our performance at the beloved Divadlo D21, where some of the theatre-goers experienced the magic of improv for the first time.

🎭 Tabloids turned quirky local headlines into bold, imaginative narratives—blending humor, surrealism, and sharp storytelling in ways only improv can deliver. In the show, the audience chose a headline about a local Czech woman who rescued hundreds of stray dogs, sparking a heartwarming and hilarious story that celebrated compassion, community, and canine chaos.

🛋️ Improv Therapy took audiences on an emotional journey, using the frame of a fictional therapy session to explore human vulnerability, relationships, and resilience.

Both formats were met with enthusiastic applause, showing once again how improv can transcend borders, connect cultures, and spark something truly meaningful.

Beyond the Stage

As always, the magic of V4 Improv Connect extended far beyond the theatre. Thanks to Chrissy Galambos, our on-the-ground coordinator, participants were well-fed, well-rested, and able to focus fully on the work—and joy—of collaboration.

On Sunday, our hosts treated us to a guided walking tour of Prague led by Jakub Weberschinke. Wandering through cobblestone streets, sharing stories and laughter, was the perfect send-off in one of Europe’s most charming cities.

Prague Highlights

📸 They say a picture’s worth a thousand words—so check out some snapshots from the weekend that captured the spirit, joy, and heart of our time together.

We left Prague with full hearts, new friendships, and renewed inspiration for what’s to come. A huge thank you to everyone who made this stop so special—our hosts, performers, organizers, and the warm Prague audience who came along for the ride.

The story of V4 Improv Connect is far from over—this was just one beautiful chapter in a much larger journey.

✨ Stay tuned with V4 Improv Connect and Funnylicious Theater for more updates. There’s more storytelling, more laughter, and more magical, cross-border improvisation ahead!
